Immunology Lab Tests

The immune system is a complex network of specialized cells and organs that has evolved to defend the body against attacks by "foreign" invaders. When functioning properly it fights off infections by agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. When it malfunctions, however, it can unleash a torrent of diseases, from allergy to arthritis to cancer to AIDS. This section discusses the tests we utilize to diagnose immune system problems.

Several of our lab partners perform Immunology Lab Tests. Please refer to the About the Labs We Utilize section of the website for links to all of our lab partners and a full list of tests performed by each lab.

For sample reports of some of the lab tests we order please see the links below.

Immune Lab Test

Cancer Antigen (CA) 15-3 - LabCorp

The Cancer Antigen (CA) 15-3 test is used to monitor the response to the treatment of invasive breast cancer and to help watch for recurrence of the disease.

It is also used when you have been or are being treated for invasive breast cancer.

Immune Lab Test

Alpha-Fetoprotein Tumor Markers - LabCorp

Alpha-Fetoprotein Tumor Markers are used to help diagnose and monitor therapy for certain cancers of the liver, testicles, or ovaries.

The most important application of AFP testing in cancer management is for testicular cancer. Although not present in pure seminoma, elevated serum AFP is closely associated with nonseminomatous testicular cancer. The measurement of AFP in serum, in conjunction with serum hCG, is an established regimen for monitoring patients with nonseminomatous testicular cancer.

Special Instructions: This test may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin (also termed as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R). It is recommended to ask all patients who may be indicated for this test about biotin supplementation. Patients should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.

Immune Lab Test

Interleukin 10 - Plasma - LabCorp

Interleukins are a group of related proteins made by leukocytes white blood cells and other cells in the body. Interleukins regulate immune responses. Interleukins made in the laboratory are used as biological response modifiers to boost the immune system. An interleukin is a type of cytokine.

Immune Lab Test

LRA by ELISA ACT Professional's Choice Plus (Serum - 406 Tests)

The Lymphocyte Response Assay (LRA) by ELISA/ACT, also known as the Advanced Cell Test, is five times more accurate than the best of previous tests.

The procedure is relatively simple for the patient. It requires a 12-hour fast, followed by a one-ounce blood draw. Then, using fewer damaged cells (different from other tests) because of a specifically chosen blood draw procedure and a uniquely formulated preservative, the laboratory measures the reaction of the specially prepared white blood cells to as many as 512 items.

Immune Lab Test

SARS-CoV-2 IgG Antibody - Serum - Doctors Data

This test identifies front line healthcare providers, patients, and community populations who have potentially developed an immune response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Doctor’s Data is utilizing a SARS-CoV-2 IgG qualitative immunoassay from Beckman Coulter that offers a confirmed 99.6% specificity and 100% sensitivity at 18 days post PCR confirmed positive test.
