In general,
the regions of the cerebral hemispheres that are closely related to the
hypothalamus are those parts that together constitute the limbic lobe,
first considered as a unit and given its name in 1878 by the French
anatomist Paul Broca. Together with related nuclei it is usually called
the limbic system, consisting of the cingulate and parahippocampal gyri,
the hippocampus, the amygdala, the septal and pre-optic nuclei, and their
various connections.
