Therapeutic nutrition is defined as a combination of
dietary therapy and appropriate nutritional
supplementation. Dietary therapy is a powerful tool for
correcting imbalances in the body and is used many
times with other healing arts such as chiropractic,
acupuncture, auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture),
kinesiology, and acupressure. It is important that you choose a health care practitioner who has the necessary experience to guide you through a successful program. Things to consider are the knowledge your practitioner has in physiology (the study of how the body functions), and nutritional science. All practitioners are not the same. If you have friends that have been to practitioners, this is often times the best source to find a referral. RESULTS speak for themselves, regardless of how many letters a person has behind their name (ever been to a doctor that had all these initials and didn't get results?) Taking a hand full of vitamins and nutrients can harm just as they can help. Nutrition is a science that requires knowledge and most importantly, application of that knowledge in a doctor-client setting. We often see patients who take many nutritional supplements (and western drugs) that are theoretically good for them, but are not really helping them to the degree that they should because they aren't taking the correct supplements for their condition. It is a common experience to have patients walk in my office taking 15 or 20 different supplements without any alleviation of their health problem. This stems from the misinformation in printed materials the general public read and many times a lot of "marketing hype" to sell someone a product. This is NOT clinical or therapeutic nutrition. This is marketing hype. Health can only be restored if an individual practitioner is looking out for your best interest and he gets RESULTS. |
