A study regarding the effects of chiropractic manipulation (CM) and stress was recently conducted. Salivary cortisol levels, which can be used to determine stress, were measured. Samples collected for five weeks found that CM therapy did not significantly change basal salivary cortisol levels. It was determined that that neither the anticipation of CM nor the spinal manipulative procedure itself induces a state of stress or anxiety. In fact, we find the majority of patients look forward to their chiropractic treatments. SOURCE: JMPT -- March/April 2002 Volume 25 Number 3
