One of the nine essential
AMINO
ACIDS. that's a major player in the growth and maintenance of body
tissues (it's found primarily in fibrous animal proteins). Shortfalls of
valine have produced loss of muscular coordination in lab rats as well
as hypersensitivity to pain, heat and cold. Like
ISOLEUCINE
and LEUCINE,
valine is an amino acid some infants can't metabolize. This metabolic
disorder produces a condition called maple syrup urine disease (see
Isoleucine).
