What is it? |
| n : the part of the
autonomic nervous system that is concerned esp. with preparing the body to
react to situations of stress or emergency, and tends to depress
secretion, decrease the tone and contractility of smooth muscle, increase
heart rate, and arises in the thoracic and upper lumbar parts of the
spinal cord. Through other message pathways these nerves communicate to
spinal nerves which then reach various organs — called also sympathetic
