| Sodium chloride. But that's just the beginning of a story that dates back to the Stone Age and includes whole chapters when the MINERAL was more precious than gold. Recently salt's gotten a bad rap as an elevator of blood pressure. Too much salt is bad, it's true. But too little is equally bad. Our body fluids all contain salt, in about the same proportion as seawater, and without salt we would die (see SODIUM). | |
