What is it? |
| Formerly known as U.S. Recommended Daily Allowances (not to be confused with Recommended Dietary Allowances), RDIs are one of the standards used to determine the DAILY VALUES now listed on new food labels. Also factored into the Daily Values are DAILY REFERENCE VALUES , which suggest, for the first time, healthful daily intakes for FAT, CARBOHYDRATES, CHOLESTEROL, FIBER, SODIUM and POTASSIUM. The reason for the name change to RDIs was to eliminate any confusion between U.S. Recommended Daily Allowances (set by the FDA) and RECOMMENDED DIETARY ALLOWANCES (set by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences). |
