Candida may become an opportunistic pathogen widespread in patients with
AIDS and other immunosuppressed patients. Mucocutaneous candidiasis
occurs on the vulva, anus, breast or groin folds. Microscopic
examination reveals budding spores and short hyphae.
Vulvovaginal candidiasis generally presents with itching, watery to
cottage cheese-thick discharge, vaginal redness with adherent white
discharge, painful or difficult sexual intercourse, pain on urination,
and swelling of labia and vulva with lesions. |
