Stay Informed and Coordinate Your Efforts.
Study the issue: gather facts at the library and on the Internet and verify the information where possible.
Subscribe to related publications that provide reliable, current information.
Attend lectures and classes.
Band together: find an organization where you can share knowledge.
If there is no group near you, contact like-minded people via letter, e-mail or phone. If possible, start an organization.
Raise Public Awareness.
Participate in petition, letter and telephone campaigns.
Involve consumer and community groups in your issue
Provide local merchants with literature and petitions.
Set up a class in an adult education facility.
Involve the Media.
Contact the media prior to events, demonstrations and lectures that will be promoting the issue.
Send letters to the editors of local papers.
Write to journals and newsletters that take an opposing stance to keep readers aware that there is another side to the issue.
Urge high profile people with similar views to mention the issue in interviews and lectures.
Discuss the issue on call-in shows.
Let Your Government Representatives Know How You Feel.
Find opportunities to raise the issue at public gatherings.
Form a committee to distribute literature outside of meetings.
Submit petitions to show public officials that many of their constituents support your position.
Generate support by writing, e-mailing, calling and visiting officials.
