The Food Guide Pyramid was developed to help
healthy Americans follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Two
sets of goals were established for the guide:
1) NUTRITIONAL GOALS for a diet that is adequate
in protein, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, without excessive
amounts of calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, added
sugars, and alcohol;
2) USABILITY GOALS for a guide that is practical
and useful to consumers.
There are problems with the Food Guide Pyramid.
First is how if came about (through the influence
of drug and food industries).
Second, there are flaws in it's design.
In this series of articles, we'll explore the Old
Pyramid model and tell you why it's a poor practice to follow such a
model. Then we'll give you a new pyramid model to look over.
Hopefully, you'll follow the new model so that you can be
healthi1er.
We'll back up everything with documentation so you
don't think we're trying to dupe you into something you can't have.
Take this preliminary
to see if your condition could respond to treatment. |
