The presence of glucose tolerance factor chromium (not elemental chromium) makes the cells sensitive to the presence of insulin in the blood. Both hypoglycemia and diabetes are indications of its supplemental need as both conditions may indicate insulin that is ineffective. Research also points to an anti-arteriosclerosis function of glucose tolerance factor chromium. Its presence retards the formation of plaques of cholesterol and calcium from adhering to the blood vessel wall.
