 Our bodies need calcium for a variety of functions, including cellular-energy production and serve and heart functions. Stress and corticosteroid excess also prompts calcium loss and osteoporosis. Calcium deficiency also causes other life style diseases including hypertension, arteriosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer's disease and colorectal cancer, because of the action of parathyroid hormone to increase intracellular calcium interfering with the signal transduction of the cell.
