Actress Anne Archer releases website to educate mothers against drugging of children.  She joins Lisa Marie Presley, Priscilla Presley and Kirstie Alley in the fight for children’s rights.

Los Angeles - On February 16th, actress Anne Archer (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) joined the growing list of celebrity mothers who are speaking out against the psychiatric labeling and drugging of school children, by releasing a new website (www.FightForKids.com) at the 33rd annual celebration of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) International, a psychiatric watchdog organization.

Helping to release the new website with Anne Archer, was CCHR 2002 Human Rights Award winner, Sheila Matthews.  Ms. Matthews, a Connecticut mother, was awarded for her year long battle to get psychiatry out of the public school systems.   A little over a year ago, Ms. Matthews was told by the psychologist at her son’s school that her 7 year-old son had ADD and needed to take psychiatric drugs.  She was warned that if she didn’t medicatehim, her son would undoubtedly self-medicateand end up a drug addict.

Knowing that she did not want to drug her son,  one day she happened to turn on her TV, and  live on C-SPAN, she heard another mother tell a story chillingly similar to her own.   That mother was last year’s CCHR Human Rights Award winner Patricia Weathers, who at the time was testifying before Congressman Bob Schaffer’s Hearing on Psychotropic Drug use in Children.  The minute Sheila Matthews heard Patricia’s story about parents being bullied into putting their child on a psychiatric drug, she thought, My God, one of us made it and one of us is out there exposing the truth.

That day, Sheila Matthews made the commitment to expose the misleading information being given to parents about so-called mental disordersin the public school systems and expose the coercive tactics being forced on parents who refused to allow their children to be labeled and drugged.  She contacted Mrs. Weathers, and soon these two mothers became a driving force in exposing the coercion facing parents to drug their children.

Matthews has subsequently joined forces with Patricia Weathers, who last year was awarded by Priscilla Presley on behalf of CCHR, for her role in leading mothers across America to fight for children’s rights.

Working with Patricia Weathers and CCHR, Matthews become a national spokesperson against the psychiatric labeling and drugging of children in public schools, and has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, and TIME magazine.  She was a key witness in state hearings held in Connecticut and worked diligently on this now acclaimed law, prohibiting school personnel from recommending a child take a psychotropic drug as a prerequisite to being taught.

Ms. Matthews said, This overwhelming crisis in our educational systems must be exposed.  When our schools have to use mind-altering drugs to teach in the classroom, then they’ve gone down the path of no return.  The only way to correct this is to get the mental health industry out of our schools.  I urge parents everywhere to log onto this website.  Know your rights as a parent, and know that the future of your child is in your hands.”

The website, www.FightForKids.com, is designed to educate parents about the labeling and drugging of children, and inform them about the necessary reform of Congress’s next major educational project, Special Education. Today, over six million American children are prescribed psychotropic stimulants – typically stronger than cocaine – for supposed behavioral and learning difficulties. Through Special Education, up to 3.2 million of these children have been labeled as learning disordered. Even though medical experts pan so-called learning disorders as profit making fraud, approximately $29 billion of the $50 billion Special Education budget is slated for the education of these children.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights.
