Nutritional Support for the Spine

How Can I Keep My Spine Healthy?

Many factors contribute to the deterioration of our musculoskeletal system. This system, consisting of many connective tissues such as joints, ligaments, and tendons, is continuously being tested by various factors such as stress, improper diet, and exercise.

A healthy musculoskeletal system is important for everyone — the young, the elderly, sports enthusiasts, people constantly on their feet, and people using repetitious movements such as computer keyboarding.

Failure to maintain a healthy musculoskeletal system and joints can lead to a reduction in overall health and well-being. Therefore, supplying your body with the proper nutrients found in Standard Process supplements if vital in keeping your body's connective tissues healthy.

If the spinal column is designed to provide stability and protection, its to your best interest to support that very system!

Nutritional Support for the Spine & Associated Structures

Biost

Biost ® - Bone serves a myriad of functions beyond providing shape and support for the body. For a detailed discussion of bones, click here. Bone stores essential mineral salts while the bone marrow provides a manufacturing plant for the formation of blood cells. Manganese is necessary for bone growth, development, and replacement. Manganese is involved with the health and maintenance of ligaments and tendons as demonstrated in numerous animal studies. It helps to form cartilage and synovial fluid, and is required to synthesize bone. Manganese is also necessary (in small quantities) for protein and fat metabolism. It supports healthy nerves and strengthens immunity. Manganese also plays a role in blood sugar regulation and energy production.*

Chezyn ® - Chezyn is a trace mineral complex of chelated zinc, copper, and iron. All three are chelated in liver protein to assure bioavailability. The zinc/copper ratio is very important as well as the copper/iron ratio. Therefore, to supply these three vital trace minerals in a balanced way they are blended in the proper proportions in this formula. When the doctor wants specifically to isolate zinc, copper, or iron, the products Zinc Liver Chelate, Copper Liver Chelate and Ferrofood ®, will accomplish this.

The fact that zinc is not often mentioned in today's nutritional dialogue in no way reflects upon the important role this mineral plays in the body's general health and well-being. Zinc plays primary and secondary roles in everything from reproductive health to our senses of smell and taste. It is intimately involved with metabolic processes and actively supports immune response. Iron is necessary for making hemoglobin, supplying oxygen to the body's red blood cells, and is important for normal growth. Copper is essential to the formation of bone and works with zinc and vitamin C to form elastin - the protein that forms the greater portion of elastic tissue fibers. Honey has been used for centuries to promote liver health.*

Collagen C - Native American tribes used Echinacea plants as herbal remedies long before European settlers came to North America. The settlers soon learned about the health giving powers of the Echinacea plant and also used it to treat various conditions. Over the past century, numerous medical and scientific researchers have studied the effects of Echinacea on the human immune system. Their findings suggest that Echinacea is useful in minimizing the effects that plague people during seasonal changes. The bright orange-red fruit and seeds of the rose hip plant contain a treasure chest of nutrients including ascorbic acid, flavanoids, citric and malic acids, tannins, pectin, carotene, fructose and sucrose, vitamins A, B3, C, D, E, and P, and zinc. Rose hip powder has historically been and presently is being used effectively as a tonic, nutrient, and to promote regularity.*

Ligaplex® I - Ligaplex I strengthens ligaments. It's for the patients with herniated discs, flat feet, chronic low back problems or hypermobility of the spine. It's used most often with patients who can't hold their chiropractic adjustments. It contains manganese, vitamin E and other factors which support the ligaments.

Manganese is involved in the health and maintenance of ligaments and tendons and is essential to the synthesis of cartilaginous tissues. For example, manganese is an important cofactor in the enzymes necessary for mucopolysaccharide synthesis. Mucopolysaccharide is an important constituent in both skeletal and cartilage structural matrix. Impaired enzymatic activity due to manganese deficiencies can result in abnormal cartilage formation.*

Peavine juice contains the building blocks of hormones and many of the vitamins and minerals required for the manufacture of collagen. These nutrients are required for the proper manufacture of collagen fibers and elastin which are the foundation of ligaments and tendons.*

Ligaplex® II - Ligaplex II Is Mainly Comprised Of Manganese Glycerophosphate, Carbamide, Veal Bone PMG™ Extract, Bovine Heart PMG™ Extract, Defatted Wheat Germ, And Bovine Liver. This is similar to Ligaplex I. The main difference is the Super-Eff which Ligaplex II contains. Super-Eff is used for people with degenerative conditions, so Ligaplex II is used for the older person who has degenerated ligaments. Ligaplex I is for a younger person who strains a ligament. There is some overlapping between these two products, but that is the basic difference.

Organ tissue proteins have been widely used to support good health since the time of the ancient Greeks. Liver powder may stimulate, support, and maintain protein metabolism. Carbamide stimulates
osmotic transfer of body fluids helping to reduce swelling and also aids protein metabolism. Calcium is needed for repair of connective tissue. Manganese is an important trace mineral for skeletal and connective tissue development. Vitamin E is a powerful anti-oxidant that protects the joints from damage by free radicals and increases joint mobility. One of the  richest sources of complete vitamin E complex is found in wheat germ oil. Coenzyme Q10 increases tissue oxygenation to aid in repair of connective tissues. This important nutrient can be harvested from bovine heart tissue. The combination of these ingredients contributes to the overall functioning and well-being of the skeletal system through a number of physiological processes.*

Manganese B12 - Manganese is a muscle builder and a ligament strengthener. Allorganic Trace Minerals contains iodine and this makes some people nervous, so we made Manganese B-12 without iodine. They are very similar products.

Manganese B-12 contains less of the other trace minerals than
Trace Minerals–B12®, and it's less expensive. But both will build muscles and strengthen ligaments. Use either one for people with slipped discs, herniated discs or for people whose adjustments don't hold due to poor ligament tone. For people who are sensitive to iodine, only use Manganese B-12.

Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is an essential nutrient involved in metabolizing proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Vitamin B12 is necessary for normal metabolism of nerve tissue, and is intimately related to the actions of four important amino acids, pantothenic acid, and vitamin C. It works along with folic acid to ensure that the red blood cells reach full maturity, thereby, promoting healthy blood. Vitamin B12 also helps in the utilization of iron.

Manganese plays an important role in protein and fat metabolism. Together, these nutrients protect, maintain and support the blood. Manganese compliments the B-complex vitamins to help achieve an overall feeling of well-being. Carrots and their derivatives hold a virtual storehouse of important vitamins and minerals that, among many other things, benefit a number of major organs and enhance digestive function by stimulating waste elimination.*
