Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson, worried that flu sufferers might assume that their aches and pain are symptoms of the more deadly disease anthrax, is summoning pharmaceutical industry chiefs to his office today for a "stern discussion" about making more flu vaccine.

As his department battles an ever-growing anthrax crisis, Thompson is fearful many Americans will jump to the wrong conclusion about common seasonal bugs. "Flu and anthrax poisoning have the same symptoms," such as sore throat, fever and body aches, he said.

DR. FARR'S COMMENT: Too bad that the HHS Secretary does not understand that flu vaccine does NOT prevent the flu. He has a valid concern about people confusing flu and anthrax symptoms. However, the flu vaccine is in no way, shape, or form going to solve the problem.

The way to prevent the flu is to:

• Get plenty of rest and go to bed before 10 PM
